Inaugurated on December 4th, 2012, the Mo.C.A. - Montecatini Terme Contemporary Art was created as an exhibition space dedicated to contemporary art.
The opening of the Gallery, on the ground floor of the twentieth-century Palazzo Comunale – a place of exceptional beauty and historical and cultural importance – provided the opportunity for the restoration of wonderful environments that until 2005 housed the Regie Poste, as the cycle of stained glass windows by the artist Galileo Chini still testifies, all based on the theme of communication.
Dona Voltada d’un Vol d’Ocells by Joan Miró
An invaluable masterpiece in the permanent collection of the Gallery, Dona Voltada d’un Vol d’Ocells, 1980, mixed media on raw canvas, 315 x 260 cm by Joan Miró, one of the five largest canvases in the world by the Catalan artist, donated by himself to the city of Montecatini Terme in 1980 on the occasion of the Maggio Mirò event, thanks to the valuable intervention of Carlos Franqui, a friend of Mirò, Cuban exile, and former minister of culture under Fidel Castro.
