Castle

Description

The first access point to the town is Porta di Borgo, the only one left of the seven that allowed entry to the Castle. Today, where the sturdy walls once stood , there is a long walkway that encircles the top of the hill like a terrace, dominating the Valdinievole and the castles that surround it from its almost 300 meters of altitude. It was here that Giuseppe Verdi defined the view as "the most beautiful panoramas I have ever seen." The terrace offers a unique panoramic view of the Valdinevole, and throughout the rest of the path, the view is unobstructed, allowing for panoramic admiration.

On the panoramic walk, both in the north and south parts, we find some private Liberty-style buildings: two villas, among which is the Villino Grocco (named after the owner, Professor Pietro Grocco, the medical director of the Terme and doctor of Giuseppe Verdi), and the beautiful gate of the former Quisisana Hotel, a valuable example of the Liberty style that had such an influence on the entire city of Montecatini Terme.
