Description

The building is located near the Tamerici and Leopoldine establishments.
It was built by Giulio Bernardini in 1904 at the behest of Pietro Baragiola and was initially intended for the extraction and sale of Tamerici salts.
From 1920 onwards it changed uses several times: for a few years it housed the General Management of the Spa during the restoration of the historic site on Viale Verdi.
Then, from 1925 to 1940, it was home to the Palazzo delle Esposizioni.
It was later completely transformed: a swimming pool with specially channeled thermal water was built underground, a work that made it possible to offer spa customers motor rehabilitation in water for the treatment of musculoskeletal system disorders.
Finally, in the 1960s, the building became a medical centre specialising in the clinical and diagnostic analyses essential for spa treatments.
In 1956, on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of Pietro Grocco (Albonese - PV, 27 June 1856 – Courmayeur - AO, 12 February 1916), the structure was named after him in homage to his commitment as government inspector and health director of the Spa. In fact, the doctor was responsible for reworking the rules for the correct use of water and the arrangement of the springs according to modern hygienic criteria.
