Description
He was born on February 14, 1778 in Florence.
In 1794 he entered the grand-ducal financial administration as an apprentice.
A student of Gaspare Maria Paoletti (Florence, 1727 – 1813), he studied architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts and in 1801 he was appointed professor at the Academy.
In 1815 he was appointed secretary of the management of the Royal Factory writing desk with the role of architect.
In the early years of the Restoration he played an important role in the protection of the Tuscan monumental heritage. As director he was responsible for the conservation, adaptation and maintenance of the vast complex of the grand-ducal factories.
In 1820 he was admitted to the Accademia dei Georgofili.
In 1835 he was allowed to go to Paris to follow his son Luigi Guglielmo in his studies, and he did not return to Florence until 1840, when the Grand Duke appointed him Gonfaloniere for the three-year period 1841-43, a position also connected to major urban redevelopment works.
He died in Florence on February 20, 1843, and was buried on the 22nd in the cloister of S. Croce.
His funerary monument was placed in the chapel inside the church.
